This course is suitable for experienced and inexperienced teaching assistants in both the primary and secondary phases.

The course will look at the development of self-esteem and self-confidence of the teaching assistant, the teaching and learning in the classroom collectively and individually, the needs of individual learners, learning styles, motivation, effective questioning, planning and supporting learning activities, general roles and responsibilities and the everyday challenges that face teaching assistants in schools.

The course will be run by Peter J Williams whose experience in education spans nearly 40 years. He has held many posts in both state and independent schools – a classroom teacher, head of department, senior teacher and the head of two schools. Qualified as a music teacher he is now a holder of a Masters Degree, the NPQH and a Fellowship. As a university associate tutor he works with teachers in schools undertaking MA courses and is a day course lecturer covering many areas in education. In his spare time he directs a large choral society and a very successful local orchestra in West London. He is an enabler of both student and adult progression, encouraging all those he associates with to develop their skills and reach their potential.
