Actress Opens New Performing Arts Facilities at Denbigh School At today's grand opening of Denbigh School's specially commissioned ‘New Building’, Film and TV actress Ann Marie Davies with husband MK Dons Manager Karl Robinson, Milton Keynes' Mayor Councillor Keith McLean and MK Dons Defender Joe Walsh were treated to creative performances from Dance, Drama, Music and Art students.
The bespoke contemporary building, which was made possible due to a collaboration with the Local Authority through their 'Expanding the Best' programme, houses fantastic new facilities. Open spacious art and music classrooms and a double height Activities Studio and Meeting Hall, that can comfortably seat up to 300 people in theatre style seating, is now an inspiring space and new home to Denbigh's Performing Arts and Art students.
Delighted with the new accommodation, Headteacher, Mr Andy Squires said:
"At Denbigh we have the highest aspirations for our students and these fantastic new facilities will help them to achieve their academic goals. The new space also gives students the opportunity to experience a huge range of extra-curricular activities, helping them to grow as individuals - which is something we are truly passionate about at Denbigh School.
“We were delighted that Ann Marie Davies, who has an accomplished and successful acting career, which includes four years in ‘Brookside’ and parts in programmes such as ‘Heartbeat and Doctors’, was able to join us as our special guest.
"As only one of two outstanding secondary schools in Milton Keynes, Denbigh was awarded Government funding to increase the capacity of the School, which has enabled us to accommodate more students from the local area. The new building is just the start of major changes to the School and what it can offer to existing and new students at Denbigh."
The building took two years to complete from tender through to completion and cost £4.5m.
