Denbigh has a successful, thriving Sixth Form of approximately 400 students which combines the very highest academic standards with a wide range of enrichment, social and sporting activities. Our Sixth Form students consistently record examination results above the national average and approximately 80% of our students achieve university places each year, including Russell Group and Oxbridge. Students choose a programme of study to suit their needs from our flexible and varied curriculum, containing around 30 Level 3 courses. Students also benefit from a range of enrichment options including: extended project, general studies, young enterprise, Community Sports Leaders Award and Russian,

Turkish and Italian. Our Sixth Form facilities provide students with a specialised learning environment. Sixth Form students are encouraged to play a leadership role in the wider life of the School and to support the School’s younger students. We expect all our sixth form students to be role models at all times. The Sixth Form has a thriving Student Union which organises charity and social events, produces a Sixth Form magazine and contributes to the development of teaching and learning of students in the Sixth Form.

The Sixth Form facilities

We have a newly built Sixth Form Centre. This area has been specifically designed to combine a social area with study facilities.

We have various styles of seating for students to work and socialise. Upstairs there is a quiet study area and a computer room for sixth form students.

The Sixth Form Committee influenced the design of the room to provide an ergonomic venue.
The Sixth Form Centre also houses the offices of the Heads of Sixth Form. We also have an area for UCAS and Apprenticeship research.

We also have an Independent Learning Centre with a dedicated area for Sixth Form and an extensive range of related books and resources for KS5 study.

All our classrooms have IT facilities. We pride ourselves on offering excellent resources for enhancing teaching and learning including bespoke Design and Engineering facilities.
We also provide students with lockers.

Personal Development

All students are assigned a Sixth Form Academic Learning Mentor with whom they meet regularly to discuss targets, progress and their future. All Sixth Form students also have a weekly session with fellow sixth formers to support their learning and to encourage the students to make the most of the opportunities that are available. Additionally students develop their leadership skills by taking an active role in their mixed age tutor group, assisting the tutor in delivering our tutorial programme to the younger year groups. Students can train to become Peer Mentors to work with younger students in the School and can also qualify as Peer Mentor trainers.

Extra-Curricula

We provide an extensive range of opportunities for our Sixth Form students. This is to ensure that students develop as individuals and are therefore suitably prepared for University or high level employment.

We offer a programme of support for students who are making applications for the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities. We organise mock interviews with University professors and arrange work shadowing and work experiences in students chosen fields. We ensure that the students are well prepared for additional university admissions examinations that they may be required to take for example BMAT, LNAT, UKCAT and STEP
