Lesley Oscroft

Denbigh School

As Head of Year 12 and 13 for nearly 10 years, Lesley is a highly driven and experienced professional who has been influential in raising attainment, attendance and ethos of sixth form students.  Her Action Research project in 2010 investigated the pastoral needs of sixth form students and the benefits of mentoring and coaching.  Her findings resulted in the restructuring of the schools sixth form tutorial and pastoral care system with the introduction of mentors rather than tutors and a different approach to pastoral care.

The results speak for themselves through the confident, vibrant and growing sixth form body, supported by knowledgeable enthusiastic and effective mentor staff.  Lesley has delivered whole school INSET on approaches to supporting sixth form teaching and learning alongside mentoring and coaching techniques.  Lesley is highly experienced in the preparation and support of students through the UCAS process having devised generic whole school programs alongside offering additional support to competitive admissions courses.  Lesley is an outstanding teacher of Physical Geography, with more than 15 years experience of GCSE and A Level teaching and has lead the creative development of new schemes of work through the various curriculum and syllabus changes.  She is also an experienced external marker and has been a team leader overseeing the marking of GCSE examination papers for several years.
